While cities and states often take center stage for innovative uses of technology, counties also play an important role in driving forward government for both public-sector agencies and citizens. Each year, the Center for Digital Government’s* Digital Counties Survey considers the state of technology use across county governments nationwide. Submissions from counties in five population categories are vetted and judged, and winners are selected and highlighted for the ways in which they're using tech to better serve constitutents and improve quality of life in their regions.
This year, 63 counties were honored for their innovative system deployments, citizen-focused initiatives and tech-enabled efficiencies. Here we offer some high-level data points that benchmark the state of technology in America’s counties, and give rising jurisdictions practices to emulate.
