Out of almost 100,000 registered dogs in the city, the most common breed in town is a mutt; the most popular name is Max, WNYC reported. And in the Upper West Side, SoHo, the West Village and Park Slope, Labradors are the most popular purebred dogs.
In researching to map breed and name information, the news outlet was told that only about one out of five dogs in New York City has been registered with the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, which runs the dog licensing program -- a penalty that results in a summons and a $200 fine.
