The post was previously filled by Marlin Mackey, who was appointed in 2009 by former Gov. Bill Richardson, according to the DoIT. Bob Mayer has been serving as interim state CIO.
Ackley currently serves as an administrator at the Institute for Complex Additive Systems Analysis at New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology based in Socorro. He has worked for the institute since 2001, according to the governor’s office, and his job duties have included overseeing a large staff, computer system operation and maintenance accredited for the computation of sensitive government data.
Martinez said her administration is seeking new technology solutions to eliminate waste within the state government. Ackley’s background will be a major asset as the state works to take advantage of available resources to streamline the flow of information throughout the administration, she said.
States are taking longer than expected to name their state CIOs, although Calvin Rhodes was named executive director of the Georgia Technology Authority and state CIO on Thursday, Jan. 27.
