A new video from the San Francisco City Attorney’s office is showing that there are other ways — and more creative ways — to get the word out to citizens.
In the video Pay Me Maybe — a parody of Carly Rae Jepsen’s inescapable hit song Call Me Maybe —the S.F City Attorney is publicizing that some Californians may be eligible to receive repayment if they took out specific types of payday loans between 2005 and 2007 from Money Mart stores. The stores were alleged to have charged inflated interest rates that were illegal.
The San Francisco Chronicle reported that the parody video was made by an intern. The video has chalked up thousands of views on YouTube and has landed on the homepage of the Huffington Post.
The deadline for claiming the restitution is Oct. 1. Californians must call the advertised hotline ore fill out a claim form. For more information, City Attorney Dennis Herrera’s office has set up a website with more details about the settlement.
