The department is adding TRACS E-Citation software in computer tablets in patrol vehicles with printers and bar code scanners under the direction of Patrol Lt. Anthony White.
Officers will be trained on the system designed to enhance their abilities to scan driver’s licenses, registrations and fill out citations electronically.
Eventually, police will be able to utilize the system to help with accident reports as well.
Chief Jerry Speziale also pointed out the new software can upload citations to a district court office, which saves police the time and cost involved in delivering paper citations.
In addition, Speziale said the department will step up speed and aggressive driving enforcement throughout the city with its new ENRADD system (Electronic Non-Radar Device), which is set to be delivered shortly.
Officers will be able to move and use the device on any Hazleton street.
“As we look at 21st-century policing, the new technology we added makes us more cost effective and efficient,” Speziale said. “The new technology will help with quality of life and will make our officers’ jobs a lot easier.”
