"The unexpected severity of this early spring storm caused numerous problems for businesses and individuals throughout Connecticut. Taxpayers who have made every effort to file their Connecticut Income Tax Return on time should not be penalized because flooding and power failures prevented them from filing timely," Rell said.
More than 50,000 Connecticut residents were reported by CL&P and United Illuminating Co. to be without power on Monday. Additionally, flooding throughout the state closed a number of roads and some railway services, prompting Governor Rell to urge motorists to stay off the roads.
The filing extension applies to Connecticut tax returns and payments only.
To help taxpayers complete their state income tax filing, the state's free Telefile and WebFile programs will also be available until midnight on April 19.
