Civic Marketplace Launches Local Procurement Partnership

The procurement platform, fresh off a seed funding round, will work with two other organizations to expand local government access to cooperative contracts. The Texas-based company is eyeing national expansion.

A fledging and freshly funded procurement operation from Texas has announced a partnership designed to benefit local governments via cooperative contracts.

Civic Marketplace, founded in 2023, said it is working with group purchasing organization Buyers Edge Platform “to unlock faster, smarter and fully compliant procurement pathways for public agencies nationwide,” according to a statement.

Buyers Edge’s “sourcing and supply chain expertise” were highlighted by Civic Marketplace.

The Alliance for Innovation, or AFI, which focuses on local government innovation, will serve as the lead agency for this effort. The push, as described by Civic Marketplace, will deliver a “modern procurement experience” that is fast, compliant and efficient at scale.

Civic Marketplace is positioning this new deal as helping governments that “are being asked to deliver more with fewer resources,” a selling point that is increasingly common among providers of government technology as federal cost-cutting efforts continue.

“This is a major step forward for public sector innovation,” said Troy Riggs, executive director of AFI, in the statement. “This partnership creates a clear path for our members to purchase with confidence, reduce administrative complexity and focus more of their time and resources on delivering meaningful outcomes for their communities.”

This deal will see Civic Marketplace host a collection of cooperative contracts managed through Buyers Edge subsidiary Edge Public and awarded by AFI.

Contract categories include office products; maintenance, repair and operations; building materials and supplies; janitorial and sanitation products; automotive parts and supplies; and batteries, power and lighting.

“Procurement is one of the most powerful — and overlooked — levers governments have to drive impact,” said Al Hleileh, CEO of Civic Marketplace, in the statement. “By combining deep procurement expertise, real-time data, volume-based pricing and cutting-edge infrastructure, this partnership helps public agencies move faster, spend smarter and deliver better outcomes for their communities.”

Late last year, Civic Marketplace said it had raised $3 million in seed funding as the company looks to expand beyond Texas.
