Moore served as CIO of Georgia from 2006 to 2011 under Gov. Sonny Perdue, and stepped down when Nathan Deal took office — a move common among state CIOs. Back then Granicus was a smaller company focused on livestreaming public meetings and managing associated documents such as agendas.
But in 2016, the private equity firm Vista Equity Partners merged Granicus with GovDelivery, roughly doubling its size and adding communications tools such as newsletter distribution to its portfolio. The company has only grown since then, using acquisitions to get into website building and digital services.
All of that has become more important for government during the COVID-19 pandemic, as jurisdictions shut down their offices, rapidly enacted new policies and moved work online.
“Citizens expect governments to deliver a seamless customer experience consistent with their other service provider relationships. For many governments, taking the first step in that experience journey is often the hardest,” Moore said in a press release. “I joined Granicus because it is the only technology company I’ve encountered that delivers real technology innovations focused on creating an improved, transparent, digital relationship between governments and their citizens. With the public sector poised to enter a new era of digital civic engagement, I look forward to being a voice for government and building strong partnerships that put Granicus’ capabilities to work for citizens across the country.”
Government Technology named Moore to its Top 25 Doers, Dreamers and Drivers list in 2011. He is also a former senior fellow with the Center for Digital Government, which is a part of Government Technology’s parent company, e.Republic.
