CivStart, a nonprofit accelerator, has named the nine startups that made it through a two-year program designed to boost the marketplace profile of those companies, and give executives vital expertise. A new program focused on AI will launch soon.

School might be starting across the U.S. but in the government technology world it is graduation season, at least for nine startups hoping to make their marks in the industry.

CivStart, one of a handful of accelerators that focus on gov tech, said officials from those companies have completed a 24-month growth-and-education program that started in September 2022.

CivStart provided support in such areas as focus groups, pitches, mentorship and fundraising — with “nearly all the companies (experiencing) significant growth” during the past two years, according to a statement.

The graduates are:
  • Beam: Software to help government deliver cash assistance and benefits
  • Cloud Driven Solutions: Civic meeting management, including agendas, minutes recording and public transparency tools
  • Enpira: Energy management to help local governments and schools with sustainability and facility management projects
  • GridMatrix: Working to reduce congestion, accidents and carbon emissions on the roads using existing data
  • Kaizen Labs: Interfaces for resident-facing services such as parks and recreation, transit and community development
  • Polimorphic: Constituent relationship management built specifically for local government
  • The Equity Brain Trust: Software for managing, analyzing and improving diversity, equity and inclusion work
  • ThirdLine: Continuous risk assessment, auditing and monitoring for government using no-code audit analytics
  • ThruGreen: Traffic light management designed for legacy technology, allowing for reduction of wait times at red lights, emergency vehicle prioritization and multi-intersection coordination without upgrading roadside equipment
“CivStart has been an invaluable partner as we’ve navigated our market expansion into serving the public sector,” said David Helene, founder and CEO of Beam, in that statement. “From helping us navigate the nuances of the government sales motion to supporting the development of trusted advisors and early government partners, the CivStart team has been a consistent and trusted resource to us that has been critical to our ability to grow our footprint and the impact of our work.”
