It’s the fifth acquisition Tyler has made this year, following buyouts of Socrata, Sage Data Security, CaseloadPRO and MobileEyes. The move will put SceneDoc in Tyler’s Public Safety Solutions division, which includes a suite of fundamental emergency services software such as computer-aided dispatch and records management systems.
SceneDoc’s technology enables law enforcement officials to use cellphones and tablets to perform specific tasks, such as take and store photos, keep notes and issue citations. The company has been around for about seven years and raised about $6 million in funding before the acquisition, according to Crunchbase.
The price Tyler paid for the acquisition isn’t public yet, but since the firm is publicly traded it will report that information to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission in public filings. SceneDoc has 18 employees, who will likely stay where they are following the acquisition, according to a press release.
The deal also represents the first exit for Responder Ventures, a relatively new venture capital firm with a unique focus on emergency responder technology. The firm lists 10 companies, including SceneDoc, in its portfolio.
