Veritone Cozies Up to Axon and Milestone in Police Tech Race

As public safety technology embraces cameras, software and other tools, Veritone is integrating more data from partners into its evidence management ”central hub.” The move follows a recent product expansion deal.

It’s all about sharing — that’s the driver behind one of the newest deals in digital public safety tools, this one involving Veritone, Axon and Milestone Systems.

Veritone, known for its work in artificial intelligence, says it's expanding its “partner ecosystem” via a deal that integrates data from the public safety and security technology companies into Veritone’s Intelligent Digital Evidence Management System (iDEMS).

That data will come from Axon’s Evidence.com, an evidence management product, and Milestone’s XProtect, which is video management software.

Veritone’s iDEMS uses AI to “streamline the management and analysis of digital evidence, including audio and video,” according to a statement from the company.

The product suite functions as a “central hub” for various data sets, the company adds, and is designed to improve the efficiency of client agencies when it comes to police investigations.

The Veritone iDEMS already uses data from such sources as Ring and Arlo — which focus on home security — drone manufactures DJI and Skydio, dash and body camera providers Motorola and Reveal, and gunfire detection firm SoundThinking (ShotSpotter), among others.

“By expanding our data integrations to include Axon’s Evidence.com and Milestone Systems, we are increasing access to provide our customers with unparalleled tools to manage and analyze digital evidence, streamline workflows, accelerate investigations and ultimately enhance public safety,” said Jon Gacek, public-sector general manager for Veritone, in the statement. “Additionally, iDEMS’ open architecture helps agencies reduce data storage costs and provide greater interoperability.”

This new move comes days after Veritone said it would increase its presence in the Midwest via a partnership with Illinois-based Midwest Public Safety.

Axon, meanwhile, recently announced its own new partnership with LiveView Technologies (LVT), which focuses on mobile security products that can bridge gaps in security camera coverage.
