According to a news release Friday, the AASA Transformational Leadership Consortium will be held virtually on Sunday and Monday, March 7-8, and co-hosted by Ohio’s Middletown City School District. The conference will include a discussion about the district’s equity center, its culture and its superintendent, Marlon Styles. Attendees will also be able to virtually visit the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center in Cincinnati.
“As a member of this consortium, I have had ample opportunities to visit school districts across the country whose students are engaged, proud of their schools and proud of the work they’re doing,” Styles said in a statement. “We are honored to serve as host district for this meeting and have champions of innovative leading, teaching and learning from across the country visit us to observe and learn about what we’re doing to meet the needs of our students.”
The association has been hosting these meetings since 2014, formerly under the label of AASA Digital Consortium, to support school staff in the areas of innovation, creativity and technology.
AASA Executive Director Daniel Domenech said in a statement that, especially given how COVID-19 has changed the learning environment, school districts need to develop digital cultures and innovative strategies to reach students.
“We are proud of the superintendents and other administrators who make up the AASA Transformational Leadership Consortium because we’ve seen, through this platform, the creation of technological solutions and digital transitions that are benefitting students and staff,” he said. “We are grateful to Superintendent Marlon Styles and his team for facilitating our March meeting.”
