The past couple years of digital transformation in schools has led to a busy time for mergers and acquisitions in the ed-tech industry, with global companies Anthology and Blackboard merging to provide a full-scale ed-tech ecosystem, CivicPlus acquiring Optimere to build out compliance tools, and Ellucian scooping up CampusLogic for financial aid purposes. Add Edlio to the list. The California-based ed-tech company is acquiring a company to add mobile apps to its suite of tools.

Edlio, which already serves about 16,000 K-12 school clients with a content management system, payment processing and electronic communications, will now offer a mobile app feature thanks to the acquisition of decade-old ed-tech company SchoolInfo, according to a news release.

The acquisition will rebrand the SchoolInfo Access mobile app to the Edlio Access app, and will be offered to Edlio's clients as well as the 2,500 schools and districts served by SchoolInfo, the release said. Some functions of the Access app include two-way communication, security features and direct access to school information on mobile devices, it said.

"This app will increase ... opportunities to engage students, staff, families and community members," Edlio founder and Chief Executive Officer Ali Arsan said in a public statement.

According to SchoolInfo’s website, the mobile-first communication it offers through the app ensures “seamless communication practices” for everyone at a school or in the school district. The product includes four components: the app, a website, a mass notification system and social media sharing, it said, adding that the method of mobile-first simply makes it easier to manage all those components. This merger, according to the release, will allow school leaders to be able to consolidate everything they do under one login. It will also allow schools coming over from SchoolInfo to utilize Edlio’s support offerings, including tech support and a Client Resource Hub, the release said.
