Six of those districts — Boyle County, Lee County and Knox County, Pulaski County, Owsley County and East Bernstadt Independent — canceled school altogether.
“Our transportation department has been assessing conditions starting very early this morning, and safety remains our priority. If you need to be out, please take extra care,” read a Facebook post from Boyle County schools.
Rockcastle County, Letcher County, Bell County, Estill County, Jackson County, Leslie County, Lincoln County, McCreary County, Middlesboro Independent and Powell County, Whitley County, and Williamsburg Independent schools all reported that on Tuesday they would have a non-traditional instruction, or learning-from-home, day.
Though Lexington received no measurable snow, light accumulations of up to an inch of snow were reported in southeastern Kentucky, according to WKYT meteorologist Jim Caldwell.
Temperatures Tuesday morning were in the low 20s, with a wind chill in the teens. The National Weather Service said highs Tuesday would stay around freezing ahead of a cold front that will move in Wednesday night
A state transportation news release said drivers should plan to allow for additional time and drive cautiously during the Tuesday morning commute.
There is a possibility of black ice with low temperatures, the news release said.
