Why should we care as emergency managers about the above numbers? It really all has to do with resiliency. The age of infrastructure means that it becomes weaker with age and each piece of infrastructure becomes less resilient in itself. Then there is the quality and quality of the infrastructures in our regional footprints. With growing populations all along the coasts and the South there is an increasing demand for serviceable infrastructures. Because we are not only not adding new infrastructure or replacing worn out infrastructures we keep walking along the cliff's edge of catastrophic failures.
