(TNS) - The City of Racine announced Thursday the launch of an online map that provides the latest road closure information.

The Road Closure Map is a tool aimed at helping drivers plan routes and avoid delays.

To access the map, go to https://www.cityofracine.org/RoadConstruction/.

The map identifies locations in the city where public road or utility projects have closed streets completely or closed traffic in one direction. It also shows detours.

It features real-time updates from the engineering department and is available on smartphones and computers, according to the city.

The system uses updated Road Closure Software developed by global Geographic Information System and mapping software company Esri.

The map is the city's most recent Smart City innovation; Racine was named one of five Smart Cities in the U.S. by the Smart Cities Council of North America in 2019.

Since Racine's designation as a Smart City, it has used new technology to create services like the Road Closure Map and add more electric buses to its transit fleet, the city said.
