At 10:17 a.m., Heritage High School received a telephone call from a person who said that there was a bomb on the Wake Forest campus. The school contacted law enforcement and evacuated students to the football field.
Because of Thursday’s high temperatures, students were dismissed early at noon.
But not all parents received initial notification about the evacuation, leading the school to “to extend our apologies” to those families.
“It has since come to our attention that a technological error occurred with our messaging software, and not all families received our initial notification,” the school said on its website. “We continue to investigate the error to ensure these issues do not happen again.
“Please know that if you ever have a question about an ongoing situation, you can always find the most up-to-date information on our school’s website.”
Police seek help finding suspect
Wake Forest Police did not find a bomb during their search of the school. They’re still investigating but don’t have any suspects.
Anyone with information about the case is asked to call Wake Forest Police at 919-554-6150. Callers may remain anonymous.
People can also provide information by speaking with Heritage High administrators or by calling the Wake County school system’s Tip Line at 919-856-1911.
If the person responsible is a Wake County student, the school said the individual will face disciplinary action in accordance with district policies. The person could also face criminal charges.
