Can a NBA basketball team reinvent a city? That’s the question Forbes’ Tom Van Riper looks to answer by profiling the city of Sacramento, Calif., and its NBA basketball franchise, the Kings. After years of tumultuous relations with the team’s former owners, the Maloof brothers, Sacramento Mayor and former NBA All-Star Kevin Johnson came up with a big win by landing a new ownership group headed by Silicon Valley All-Star Vivek Ranadive. Together, Johnson and Ranadive aim to radically reshape California’s capital city by constructing the most technologically-advanced arena in the heart of downtown Sacramento.
