"I am declaring today — and we'll have a fully executed executive order — that by 2035, the state [government] fleet will be 100% electric," Lujan Grisham said during the Governor's Symposium on the Future of Transportation.
She also announced she plans to ask the Legislature for a "robust" electric vehicle tax credit.
Asked afterward to elaborate on what she meant by "robust," she jokingly said, "big."
"There's a lot of money; we're doing really well," Lujan Grisham said, referring to record-breaking revenue projections for the state, largely driven by the oil and gas industry.
The governor used an $8 million figure as a starting point.
"That's too low if we're really going to affect moderate- to low-income consumers in every community — start with that," she said.
This is a developing story and will be updated.
