AEDs are used to revive someone due to sudden cardiac arrest.
Although AEDs have been placed for emergency use in many public places such as shopping centers, schools, or public transportation facilities, Forsyth County will soon be implementing delivering AEDs via drones, the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office said in an online statement.
“Drones will soon be Forsyth County’s newest life-saving tool, flying an AED to a cardiac arrest patient, increasing the chance of survival,” the statement said.
The four information sessions will be conducted on Aug. 1 at Lewisville Branch Library, Aug. 8 at Walkertown Branch Library, Aug. 14 at Central Branch Library in Winston-Salem and Aug. 21 at Southside Branch Library in Winston-Salem. Each will be from 6-7 p.m.
Residents who attend the meeting will have an opportunity to learn more about the AED drone technology as well as see the drone in person.
“The AED Drone program was funded by a $4 million grant from the American Heart Association and is a collective partnership among the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office, Duke University, Forsyth County EMS, Hovecon and Aerox,” the sheriff’s office said.
