Exploring Emerging Trends in Government Technology — ICYMI

William “Bill” Eggers, executive director of Deloitte’s Center for Government Insights, explores the latest technologies and anticipates trends for government in 2024.

Since 2019, Deloitte’s Center for Government Insights has issued an annual report outlining the top trends transforming government — not merely technological trends but also trends related to partnerships, policy, processes and people in the public sector.

Amidst the current atmosphere of low levels of trust in government worldwide, this global scan of trends offered reasons for hope. From significantly reducing process complexity to using policy simulation models to explore the impact of potential changes, more than 200 real-world cases were identified worldwide, offering proof that government is undergoing radical transformation and achieving exponential growth.

Why exponential? Whereas previous technological “revolutions” took many decades from the introduction of the new technology until its impact upon society was recognizable, mobile and digital technology brought visible change at a more rapid pace — and now AI is poised to transform society even more quickly. In order to take advantage of new technology to improve services, governments are going to need to move faster than ever before.

Such newfound speed was among the eight trends propelling the “10x government of the future” in addition to unleashing productivity, scaling equity and crossing boundaries to transform mission effectiveness.

William “Bill” Eggers, the executive director of Deloitte’s Center for Government Insights, joined ICYMI to talk with e.Republic* President Dustin Haisler and Chief Innovation Officer Joe Morris about the report, the need for agility and real-world examples that give him reasons for optimism.
