Ivey said in a press release that Purcell brought a great deal of experience and leadership to OIT since his appointment to the position in July 2017.
“Jim was not only an expert in his field, but also a terrific public servant,” Ivey said. “I greatly appreciate his willingness to serve in this capacity and for his many years of dedicated work for the state."
Purcell said in a prepared statement that it was an honor to serve as the state’s CIO and he was proud of the strides the Office of Information Technology (OIT) took during his tenure.
“We strengthened the state’s cyber defense, modernized and stabilized state systems and networks, and we implemented best practices in project management and governance,” Purcell said. “I am very appreciative of Gov. Ivey for giving me this opportunity to give back to the state and grateful to the hardworking men and women at OIT.”
Ivey will appoint Marty Redden as acting secretary of the Office of Information Technology, the release states. Redden has previously held managerial positions in the Department of Corrections, the Alabama Medicaid Agency and the State Finance Department. His appointment is effective July 1, according to the release.
Redden was unavailable for comment as of press time.
