Retinal Scanner helps U.S. Army Verify Identities

HIIDE device stores biometric profiles.

U.S. Army Sgt. Edward Dixon performs a retinal scan on an Iraqi man who wants to join the Sons of Iraq, a coalition of Iraqi citizens working with the U.S. military and the Iraqi government to improve safety in local neighborhoods. Dixon is using a Hand-held Interagency Identity Detection Equipment (HIIDE) enrollment and recognition device. HIIDE, built by SecuriMetrics Inc., stores 10,000 biometric profiles. In addition to the retinal scanner, HIIDE also features a facial recognition camera and a fingerprint sensor. When combined, these markers are used to create biometric profiles.
