This allows for the flow of images and data into one repository for more streamlined access as well as rapid and reliable identification of both suspects and known criminals.
Under the terms of the deal, ImageWare will enable law enforcement organizations in both San Bernardino and Riverside counties to match images and data from the county and state databases to fingerprints taken in the field.
"Serving the largest county in the United States, we are constantly looking for technologies that will help our law enforcement officers in doing their jobs more effectively," said Lieutenant Jeff Rose, project manager, San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department CAL-ID Bureau.
California's CAL-ID program seeks to provide biometric identification services and technologies to all 58 counties in California. Law enforcement agencies electronically forward fingerprint files to the state's fingerprint repository in Sacramento, which transmits the files through the CJIS WAN to the FBI. California maintains fingerprint files on almost 15 million individuals.
