Cell Phone in Hand
(TNS) — The Northumberland Police Department on Monday rolled out a mobile app.

Police Chief Butch Kriner called it "a cutting edge tool that fosters a safer community."

"The Northumberland Police Department is dedicated to enhancing the safety and security of our community," he said. "Today, we reach out to you, our partners in safety, to help us in a crucial initiative."

The app is available to download free from Google Play and the Apple Store.

The app allows citizens to send confidential tips directly to the police, request vacation checks for their properties, learn about all the services offered by the Northumberland Police Department and receive real-time alerts and updates directly from the police department.

"We kindly ask you to encourage your patrons, congregation members, students, and community to download and utilize this valuable resource," Kriner said. "Together, we can create a network of informed, vigilant, and proactive citizens."

Kriner suggested sharing information about the app "during meetings, services, or as part of your communications."
