(TNS) — Summit County Common Pleas Court is adding four kiosks for jurors to check themselves in and changing its online software to allow prospective jurors to upload documents online.

Summit County Council on Monday approved a $55,232 contract with California-based Jury Systems Inc. to upgrade the current jury system software and implement the free-standing kiosks.

Jurors can use a kiosk rather than standing in line to check in with a staff member, which will reduce person-to-person contact and increase the efficiency of the check-in system, the county said.

The current jury system software will also be upgraded from a browser-based system to a web-based system, which will allow prospective jurors to upload documents supporting excusal or rescheduling requests directly to the juror self-service portal instead of being required to do so by separate emails, the county said.

Jury Systems has been the court's provider of jury service software since 2006 and has extensive knowledge of and experience with the court's jury service procedures, the county said. The purchase cost also includes system maintenance.

The purchase will be partially funded by a COVID-19 grant received from the Ohio Office of Criminal Justice Services.
