How much was Jack Dorsey’s first tweet worth?

Answer: $2,915,835.47.

It’s an odd figure, but there you have it: Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey’s first tweet just sold for $2,915,835.47.

Dorsey announced earlier this month that he would be selling the tweet as a nonfungible token, or NFT. This means it is a digital good, in this case housed on the Ethereum blockchain. The bidding opened on March 5 and closed on March 21, exactly 15 years after the tweet in question was first sent out in 2006. The bidding was hosted on a platform called Valuables by Cent that was specifically designed for auctioning off autographed tweets.

The proud new owner of Dorsey’s first tweet is Sina Estavi, CEO of blockchain company Bridge Oracle, who according to The Verge said he was “thankful.” Valuables by Cent got 5 percent of the sale price while Dorsey got 95 percent, which he converted to bitcoin and donated to GiveDirectly for its Africa Response.
