This is not the first time a Tesla and an airplane have gone head to head. In 2016, a Tesla Model S and a Qantas Boeing 737 raced each other down a runway. According to a Qantas press release, the Qantas-Tesla partnership is exploring ways to reduce the airline’s carbon footprint and “[drive] innovation for our customers and increasing sustainability in the transport industry.”
A Tesla Model X broke a Guinness World Record by towing what?
Answer: A Boeing 787.
A Tesla Model X now holds the Guinness World Record for the “heaviest tow by an electric production passenger vehicle.” The feat was completed last month at Melbourne Airport in Australia. The all-electric SUV towed the aircraft, Australia-based Qantas Airlines’ new Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner, almost 1,000 feet down a taxiway. While there were no passengers or cargo aboard the plane, and only a small amount of fuel, it still weighed in at 287,000 pounds. That’s more than 50 times the Model X’s rated tow capacity of about 5,500 pounds.
