Generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) can do a lot of things, but this is a new one. One Reddit user recently shared that when he and his girlfriend have an argument lately, she has taken to using ChatGPT to come up with conversation points and back her up.

Reddit user drawss4scoress said his girlfriend “discusses” their arguments with the chatbot, sometimes while they’re in the same room. The bot has reportedly told her he doesn’t have the emotional bandwidth to understand what she’s saying, but he worries that its answers are biased. “My big issue is it’s her formulating the prompts so if she explains that i’m [sic] in the wrong, it’s going to agree without me having a chance to explain things,” he said.

Since this is the Internet after all, it comes as no surprise that one commenter on the thread decided to ask ChatGPT itself to weigh in. The bot agreed that it probably shouldn’t be used in this kind of situation: “While AI can be helpful for many things, it shouldn’t replace genuine, human-to-human conversations that are nuanced, emotional, and require empathy.”
