Zoom is trying really, really hard to come up with ways to keep people on its platform. Their latest attempt? You can now appear in meetings as an animated animal.
The new feature, filed under “Avatars” in Zoom’s video background setting options, presents users with a number of animals that they can turn themselves into on their screens. The feature works by recognizing the shape of the user’s eyes, nose and mouth so that the avatar can mirror their movements. Zoom notes that the feature does not use facial recognition technology and does not store any biometric data. It works on Windows, macOS desktop and iOS mobile devices.
The actual animations, though, are a bit on the unnerving side. You just have to look at it yourself to see what we mean.
