Space is cool, but it’s also full of a lot of scary stuff. That’s what NASA wants us to take away from its Galaxy of Horrors.
Just in time for Halloween, the agency has released the newest posters in its Galaxy of Horrors collection. Created by the Exoplanet Exploration Program Office, they are styled after vintage horror movie posters, but their imagery is based on real space phenomena. Things like dark matter, gamma ray bursts and exoplanets are used to inspire the artwork.
“If you spend some time studying the art and then maybe go learn a little more about each of these topics, you’ll see there was a lot of thought by the artists about the choices they made to highlight the science,” said Jason Rhodes, an astrophysicist at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Lab, about the posters in 2020.
