Scientists have settled a burning question: How many ants are there in the world? The “conservative empirical estimate” is 20 quadrillion, which would be written as a 20 followed by 15 zeroes.
A research team from Julius Maximilian University (JMU) in Germany arrived at this number after looking at 489 scientific studies on the subject. They made sure these studies covered all corners of the globe and then used that data to calculate the final estimate.
Now if only we could get them to settle the wheels vs. doors debate.
