First Netflix, now Best Buy. Before we know it, DVDs are going to go the way of the VHS tape. The electronics retailer confirmed Friday that it plans to stop selling DVDs in 2024.

“To state the obvious, the way we watch movies and TV shows is much different today than it was a decade ago,” a Best Buy spokesperson told Variety. It was unclear whether the DVD moratorium included Blu-ray Discs. The spokesperson also confirmed that the chain will continue to stock game discs.

The move isn’t entirely surprising, given that physical media sales have been on a steady downward trajectory in recent years. Digital Entertainment Group reported that physical media sales were down 30 percent in the first half of this year compared to 2022. Best Buy is hoping it can free up the space the DVDs currently occupy in its stores for something that will sell better. “Making this change gives us more space and opportunity to bring customers new and innovative tech for them to explore,” the company spokesperson said.
