Where are residents collectively suing a noisy neighbor?

Answer: In Texas.

Residents of Hood County near Granbury, Texas, are fed up with one of their noisy neighbors — so much so that they’re taking said neighbor to court. But this isn’t a case of loud music or late-night parties; the neighbor in question is a bitcoin mining facility whose machinery is constantly making “intolerably loud” noise.

It’s like “trying to talk over a giant tractor,” local resident Liana Oechsle told NBC 5. “It’s shaking loud.” Others have complained about mental and health issues resulting from the noise, including hearing loss, vertigo and tinnitus. One resident who has dogs and horses said her animals were also exhibiting signs of stress.

Marathon Digital Holdings, which owns and operates the crypto mine, rejected the allegations. “The data center, which we acquired less than a year ago, is in a well-established industrial zone, and sound measurements around the facility are below legal limits,” a spokesperson told Business Insider. “Additionally, there is no established link — medical or otherwise — between our operations and the broad ailments that are being alleged. ... We will defend ourselves against these false claims.”
