Where are Waymo robotaxis honking at all hours of the night?

Answer: San Francisco.

San Francisco has had no shortage of troubles with self-driving taxis ever since they were introduced to the city. The most recent problem? The driverless vehicles from Waymo have taken to honking at each other late at night in the parking lot where they wait for their next ride.

Residents who live near the rented lot report that the vehicles are prone to honking at each other for up to an hour as early in the morning as 4 a.m. The more cars that arrive to idle in the lot, the worse it gets. “We started out with a couple of honks here and there, and then as more and more cars started to arrive, the situation got worse,” local resident Christopher Cherry told NBC Bay Area.

Cherry said he has recorded more than a dozen instances of a disruptive amount of honking, both during the day and in the middle of the night. According to Waymo, which is working on a fix, the cars are programmed to sometimes briefly honk while navigating the company’s rented parking lots. “Honestly, it’s fun to watch the cars come and go,” another resident told Business Insider. “It’s really just the honking that needs to be resolved.”
