Who got millions of people to watch a livestream of chairs for 5 hours?

Answer: Marvel.

If you’ve been worried about Marvel’s power dwindling recently, fear not — it can apparently convince people to watch chairs for five hours.

That was the subject of Marvel’s livestream this week that broke its previous record for viewing numbers, which was set by the Deadpool & Wolverine trailer. This livestream was announcing the cast for the upcoming Doomsday film, which tells the next chapter in the Avengers storyline.

Other than a brief cameo from Marvel darling Robert Downey Jr., the five-hour livestream just showed chairs. That’s it, just chairs with names on them. But it got more than 275 million views in those five hours, as well as 3.1 million mentions on social media.
