Why has a cat’s fake Twitter account become so popular?

Answer: For roasting U.K. Prime Minister Boris Johnson.

The prime minister of the U.K., Boris Johnson, is a pretty unpopular figure right now. So much so that even the fake Twitter account of his office’s cat is done with him.

Larry the Cat is the chief mouser of 10 Downing Street, which houses the Cabinet Office, a position he has held for 15 years. But it’s not him that’s making the rounds on the Internet right now, it’s an unverified parody Twitter account in his name. The account has been tweeting on the series of scandals that have hit Johnson and his office lately, and the Internet is loving it.

The account, @Number10cat, posted its most popular tweet so far on Tuesday, stating “I can no longer, in good conscience, live with this Prime Minister. Either he goes, or I do.” It has garnered more than 250,000 likes and 46,000 retweets. Johnson has since announced that he will resign once a successor is chosen. The @Number10cat parody account told Gizmodo that “while the scandals that have led to Johnson’s downfall have been serious and often heartbreaking, that doesn’t mean that he can’t be made a figure of fun.”
