According to a news release issued by the city late Wednesday night:
“An individual that was arrested earlier [Wednesday] in another jurisdiction for an unrelated issue appears to have breached the security systems at City Hall causing significant and critical physical property damage to the city’s infrastructure. The suspect was arrested on site by York City Police Department officers and charges will be forthcoming.”
Additional details were not immediately available.
Besides the City Hall shutdown, the release said that as of 11:40 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 5, “access to ALL city landline phone numbers are down. Additionally, access to city files and services are limited. Some web services may be unavailable as our staff works to repair the damage.”
The release added that “all emergency and critical operations including the York City Police Department, York City Department of Fire/Rescue Services, and Wastewater Treatment Plant remain operational.”
Additionally, the city encourages residents to call 911 in the event of an emergency, and those who work at the building will be given further details by their supervisor.
York’s City Hall is located at 101 S George St.
