These five GovTech trendsetters have partnered with Amazon Web Services (AWS) to gain the scale, agility, security, and efficiency they need to make communities better, safer, and healthier places to live.

Modernizing Healthcare Systems

Mission: Acentra Health’s network of 3,000 employees, more than 4,500 credentialed clinicians, and 450 physicians helps innovate solutions that provide maximum value and impact to the healthcare delivery system. Acentra leverages rich data sets on providers, health plan beneficiaries and members, claims, and encounters to transform insights into action by bridging gaps between technology suppliers, policy advisors, and clinicians.

Community impacts: “They are not just solving technical problems,” says Shannie Yeoh, partner account manager with AWS. “They’re making a real, tangible difference in healthcare access and quality care.” For example, Acentra modernized Wyoming’s Medicaid Management Information System (MMIS) in 19 months. The state’s medicaid program can now easily adapt to policy changes, update service offerings, and integrate new data sources, all while maintaining compliance. The project might have taken three years with traditional on-premises technologies, Acentra says.

Real-time data processing and analytics help states make smarter decisions on resource allocation and patient care. Acentra also addresses agencies’ specific healthcare needs, ensuring they meet regulatory requirements and streamline public service.

CentralSquare Technologies

Improving Agility with the Cloud

Mission: CentralSquare’s platforms enable faster and more efficient government processes and emphasize transparency for community members. The company’s software includes public administration tools that allow users to do more with less in areas like HR, finances, and utility billing. The company also provides public safety solutions such as computer-aided dispatch (CAD) and next-generation 911. CentralSquare helps state and local government agencies build smarter and safer communities and reaches about 75% of the public across North America.

Community impacts: Most of CentralSquare’s customer base has traditionally used on-premises solutions. Now, as cloud becomes a business necessity, the company is modernizing its software suite to enhance what agencies can do. For example, CentralSquare’s public safety portfolio will now be available in the cloud. The company has taken this approach because the cloud will help agencies become more nimble and secure, with the goal of improving community outcomes.

CentralSquare’s commitment to the cloud provides dependable mission-critical solutions and allows customers to focus on what matters — serving constituents. “They’re striving to understand their customers, to meet them where they are, and ultimately help them become change agents,” says Kim Hathcock, a partner account manager with AWS.

Meeting Public Safety Needs Faster

Mission: Founded as a cloud-native startup, Mark43 offers a technology platform that helps public safety agencies accelerate response times, address complex crime and safety issues, and reduce staff workloads.

“Mark43 solutions enable innovation, resiliency, security, and interoperability, enabling agencies to become more responsive and data driven,” says Chuck Synovec, partner account manager with AWS. Mark43’s portfolio includes a modern, intuitive, and mobile-first records management system (RMS), CAD, and an analytics platform used by more than 290 agencies across the U.S. and U.K. policing markets.

Community impacts: Mark43 has used machine learning and cloud tools to help the city of Seattle, Washington, identify potential hate crimes within 24 hours of an initial report and flag trends within 72 hours, a 95% reduction from the time required with legacy methods. The city’s police department can also use predictive modeling to anticipate where future crimes might happen.

Mark43 uses AI to convert officers’ notes into digital reports and to translate conversations when people who speak different languages reach out to agency contact centers.

Rekor Systems

Delivering Transportation Intelligence

Mission: Rekor delivers AI-driven technologies to departments of transportation (DOTs) to provide a rapid and holistic view of roadways. Using inputs from real-time data sources, transportation management centers gain insight on traffic patterns and roadway incidents.

“They’re pulling millions of data points together into a single cloud-based platform that helps DOTs make decisions more quickly and the roadways safer,” says Alex Devers, partner account manager with AWS.

Community impacts: DOTs often have large volumes of data in legacy systems that can’t always communicate with each other. This makes it difficult for transportation planners to mine the full potential of data. Rekor’s technology creates a cloud hub that draws data from all sources and lets transportation managers see everything at once, overcoming the shortcomings of legacy tech.

In one compelling use case, Rekor has helped the city of Austin, Texas, deal with rapid population growth by applying data intelligence to optimize traffic and increase incident awareness. “On average, they’re able to identify roadway incidents a full nine minutes faster than a typical human being does in the city’s traffic management center,” Devers says.
