Right now, AI is a hotter topic than ever — so it might be surprising to hear that Amazon Web Services (AWS) has its roots in AI and machine learning work going back more than 20 years.
Although AWS was launched in the early 2000s, its parent company Amazon achieved monumental success due in no small part to an innovative recommendation algorithm that it began using in the 1990s. The science of developing computer systems that use algorithms and statistical models to analyze and draw inferences from patterns — i.e., machine learning — is certainly in the company’s DNA.
She believes the public sector should have access to the same infrastructure driving innovation in the private sector and is proud to be able to help government become more innovative, efficient and effective at serving constituents. At the same time, she recognizes that AI and machine learning is not going to be a “fix-it” solution for every challenge and prides herself on AWS taking a deep interest in fully understanding the problems that the public sector is trying to solve before working to find the best solution.
On this episode of ICYMI, Kim discusses the unique advantages cloud technology offers public-sector entities, specific examples of how governments are harnessing AI, how AWS collaborates with other technology partners and what sets her company apart from other public-sector providers.
