The Bay Area Rapid Transit system cut service to many East Bay and South Bay stations for a time Thursday morning. Trains on its Orange and Green lines were being turned back at the Bay Fair station.

(TNS) — Train service to a portion of BART’s East Bay and South Bay stations began to resume Thursday afternoon following a computer network issue that caused the agency to close two of its lines.

Spokesperson Chris Filippi said the Berryessa/North San Jose, Milpitas and Warm Springs/Fremont stations were back open shortly after noon following the closure.

The Hayward, South Hayward, Union City and Fremont stations remained closed. BART’s green and orange lines run through the stations, but trains there were turned around at the Bay Fair station. The orange line originates in Richmond and the green line in Daly City.

The blue line, which also starts in Daly City, continued to run through the Bay Fair station without interruption and the stations east of it leading to the Dublin/Pleasanton station never closed.

AC Transit and the Valley Transportation Authority gave bus rides to those who were stranded between the affected stations. BART urged riders to consider alternate means of transportation by going to their web site or by using their app.

The agency did not have an estimate for when the closed stations would be open.
