Particularly enticing about Saini, who has served as CIO for the Atlanta Housing Authority since 2010, is his experience with strategic IT planning, Reed said.
“Information technology plays a crucial role in delivering government services, and I have charged Samir Saini with improving the city’s use of technology to better serve residential and businesses customers, in addition to expanding the availability of Wi-Fi in city parks and other public spaces,” Reed said in a press release.
Saini began his career with General Electric as an IT program manager, became an enterprise resource planning director for GE Energy Services, and later joined MGM International Resorts where he was vice president for corporate solutions. Saini has also worked in the real estate and public housing sectors.
“I am honored to join Mayor Reed’s administration,” Saini said in the release. “Information technology works best when it is tied directly to improved customer outcomes. I look forward to close collaboration with the chief operating officer and department commissioners to effectively utilize technology solutions throughout city government.”
Saini joins a city government IT department that provides technology for more than 8,000 employees and supports more than 500,000 residential and business customers.
