Houston CIO Takes on New Role at Port Authority

Charles T. Thompson held the CIO position in Houston since 2012.

Charles T. Thompson stepped down from his post as CIO of Houston last month and accepted the same position with the Port of Houston Authority. With the city of Houston since early 2012, Thompson focused on IT governance, as well as upgrading several large systems for the city, including an updated CRM system.

Prior to coming to Houston, Thompson served as CIO of Phoenix, where he was instrumental in creating an IT governance structure. Thompson also held high-ranking technology positions with Orange County, Fla., Public Schools and District of Columbia Public Schools, and held engineering posts in the private sector, including with IBM and Cisco Systems.

Tina Carkhuff was named Interim director of Houston Information Technology Services.
