The news comes shortly after former CISO Lance Wyatt announced he would be stepping aside from the role to serve as an information security engineer within the agency.
The incoming cybersecurity lead has substantial experience in government at the state, county and federal levels. A retired U.S. Army Colonel, Tresh describes himself as a "strategic executive with C-level success in strategic planning, capacity/cost projections, IT governance, and BI solutions," according to his LinkedIn profile.
He is the former CISO for the state of California, having been appointed by Gov. Jerry Brown in 2011 and remaining in that position until 2013.
Previous to that, he was employed for nearly 12 years with the California National Guard, working initially as a telecommunications manager before serving as the CIO and IT director from 2006 to 2011.
Between 2014 and 2016, Tresh was CISO for Orange County, Calif., and later served as CIO for the California High-Speed Rail Authority in 2016. He would go on to serve as the commander of the California Cybersecurity Integration Center for Brown's Office of Emergency Services between 2016 and 2018.
