On April 14, the Texas Department of Information Resources (DIR) announced the promotion of Block, who has served as interim CISO since February. As CISO, Block is responsible for overseeing cybersecurity and security operations in the state.
“Edward has been instrumental in building Texas’ Chief Information Security Office into a highly functioning program that serves our customers in a very prolific way,” said DIR Interim Executive Director Todd Kimbriel in a press release. “I am looking forward to his continuing efforts to make this program the best in the nation.”
Block has been with the DIR since 2012, and took the interim CISO position after Brian Engle's departure for the nonprofit Retail Industry Information Sharing and Analysis Center. Block is a member of the State Bar of Texas and is a Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP), Certified Information Privacy Manager (CIPM), Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA) and Certified Ethical Hacker (CEH).
