And on April 25, Scott announced the appointment of John Quinn as the state's new CIO and Secretary of Digital Services. Quinn replaces Darwin Thompson, who took over as CIO and commissioner of the Department of Information and Innovation after Richard Boes departed in January. Boes served as Vermont's CIO for five-and-a-half years under former Gov. Peter Shumlin.
Quinn has been serving as the chief innovation officer in the previous state IT department since January of this year. His career in information technology with the state goes all the way back to 2001.
"John has been integral in the planning of the Agency of Digital Services and in our overall strategy for modernizing state government," Scott said in a press release. "His leadership and experience in IT and project management will continue to be incredibly valuable as we establish this agency and take a more coordinated and accountable approach to managing the state's IT infrastructure."
Quinn’s focus in his new role will be to “take a more coordinated and accountable approach to managing the state’s IT infrastructure.” The goal is to provide more support to the state employees so that custom service can be improved and projects can rise above the challenges that face government IT systems.
