Indiana Gov. Mike Braun has tapped Warren Lenard, a former private-sector executive, to lead Indiana's IT consolidation efforts.

Lenard has been appointed the new director of the Indiana Office of Technology (IOT), effective March 31. Gov. Mike Braun made the announcement of the new hire while praising the experience and expertise Lenard will bring to the job.

"IOT works behind the scenes to keep state government afloat and operational. I am excited to announce that Warren Lenard will [serve] as the next director of the Indiana Office of Technology," said Gov. Braun in a press release. “His private-sector experience brings the type of entrepreneurial mindset that our state government so desperately needs."

According to the release, in his role, Lenard will oversee efforts to consolidate IT organizations across Indiana state government with the goal of providing great service at a low cost.

Gov. Braun’s office said that Lenard’s experience rebuilding and elevating organizations as well as building key business partnerships will be an asset for the state.

Prior to joining IOT, Lenard worked as the chief operations and information officer for Byrider Auto Sales in Carmel, Ind., a company that helps customers secure financing for vehicles. Before that, he served as vice president of technology and operations for JD Sports Finish Line in Indianapolis.

Leadership at IOT has seen a major overhaul after Braun's election. Former CIO and IOT Director Tracy Barnes stepped down in December. Jeff Allen, the chief operating officer, was named the interim CIO in January.
