Kimberly Weis has become the new chief data officer for North Dakota Information Technology.

Her new job includes helping to guide how the department, also known as NDIT, uses data for innovation and efficiency, according to a statement.

“Her leadership will play a pivotal role in steering our data initiatives to new heights, driving innovation, and ensuring that data remains a cornerstone in our mission to empower, improve, and inspire success across the state,” said CIO Kuldip Mohanty in that statement.

Ravi Krishnan was chief data officer before Weis, and he left to “pursue other opportunities,” according to a NDIT spokesperson.

Weis previously worked as director of data analytics for NDIT, a position to which she was promoted in 2020.

Before that, she was data analytics manager for the department. She also has held several jobs with the North Dakota Department of Human Services, including assistant director, according to her LinkedIn profile.

Weis brings a background in epidemiology to her new job. She holds an undergraduate degree in biochemistry and molecular biology, along with a master’s of public health in epidemiology.

“When I started my career in epidemiology nearly 22 years ago, I was passionately committed to the mission of advancing public health goals,” she said in the statement. “As my career progressed, I found myself being evermore drawn to data and the value it can provide to improving not just health, but the overall well-being of North Dakotans.”
