Philadelphia is entering the new year with a relatively new CISO, who will also be the first person to hold the post full time since mid-2018. Ketan Shah took up the job on Nov. 21, 2021, according to the city’s Office of Innovation and Technology (OIT).

Shah brings experience handling cybersecurity in several private-sector industries. He most recently worked as the CISO at PrimePay, a payroll, HR, and other employee management solutions provider, according to his LinkedIn. He also previously served as manager of IT security and compliance for remote cardiac monitoring technology company Philips BioTel Heart.

“Ketan is an experienced and qualified cybersecurity professional,” an OIT spokesperson told Government Technology in an email. “The Office of Innovation and Technology (OIT) is happy that he has agreed to join our team and serve as the Chief Cyber Security Officer for the city.”

Before Shah entered the scene, Philadelphia had contracted Steve Branigan, president of computer forensics and network security company CyanLine, to help guide the city’s cybersecurity. Branigan acted as virtual CISO from 2018 until 2020, OIT said.

Branigan has remained involved with Philadelphia and currently is working on a project for OIT and the fire department.
