Warren Sponholtz, Deputy CISO, Named Florida’s State CIO

The 22-year veteran of state service spent more than a decade as CIO at the Florida Department of Environmental Protection. He is a U.S. Marine Corps veteran and was previously deputy state CISO for nearly two years.

Warren Sponholtz has been named Florida’s new chief information officer. A Tallahassee native and U.S. Marine Corps veteran, Sponholtz has experience with state agencies including the Florida Department of Transportation and the Florida Department of Environmental Protection.

Previously, he was deputy chief information security officer at the Florida Digital Service. A spokesperson with the agency confirmed his appointment to Industry Insider — Florida via email.

According to a social media post by the Florida Department of Management Services, Sponholtz “brings the skills and experience to lead cybersecurity, data and technology innovation.” In his previous role, he helped lead the state’s program to distribute cybersecurity grants to local governments.

Sponholtz is a Florida State University graduate and serves as a deacon at City Church, according to a Florida’s Voice article.
